Hi,

I am planning on building myself an htpc. I am quite tech savvy, but this will be my first computer build. The main purpose for the computer will be to connect to my hdtv and function as a dvr, blu-ray player and light gaming machine. I am planning on using an Intel E8500 CPU, and either a Geforce GTX 280 or Radeon HD4870 with the possibility of doubling the video card in the future (SLI or Crossfire). Thus my question, which motherboard would you recommend for a novice computer builder, a Nforce 750/780i or an Intel P45 or X48?

Sounds like a HTPC (Home Theater PC) build. Do you need a TV Tuner and a SFF (Fmall Form Factor) case?

For a novice I recommend a P45 as it is much cheaper than X48 and has less compatibility/settings issues than 750/780i. P45-UD3P is a good board. +1 for that.

As for GPU go with the 4850/4870.
