core i7 / X58 / videocards??

I've heard all about core i7 and X58 blah blah, but what about future videocard hypes? Has anyone come across any updates on high-end videocards in the near future?

I know the battle is between 280 and 4870x2 but how long will that last? with the new mobos and cpus coming out?

well its to early to tell about next gen cards. no info available but speculation. apx release date Q2 09.

no wonder ppl like consoles better they last longer and u cant upgrade them but in pc even if u dont need to upgrade there is always a crave to do it. I think im gonna stay with my setup for 2 more yrs. hopefully it will last.

It is a illness really. You have a great system. More teraflops than in all Zimbabwe.
No console atm can compete graphically with your system. Hell even a Sony PS3 game gets behind vs my 4850 !!

People with already great rigs, get too much influenced by hype. Use your rig, have fun with it, and when its not enough, then upgrade it !!!

(this is just my opinion)

I would be stunned if either Nvidia or ATI used DDR5 on a 512 bit bus. There's really no reason to - DDR5 on a 256 bit bus is quite a bit cheaper, and delivers all the required bandwidth. Also, a 512 bit bus would significantly increase the required die size.

Yea I can understand that. Its just something that you have to fight off. My current system in the sig is runnin everything perfectly fine maxed at 1680x1050 and usually 4x AA (of course with the exception of the Crysis series, which it runs pretty well 2) so I am goin to ride it out for a while longer. I have had the CPU for a year and a half now and it still hasnt let me down. Your system will def serve you well for a while man.

Well main thing IMO, is that there is supposed to be a 55nm refresh of the GTX series, when that arrives, that would be my recommendation.

Im jealous of your 4870 it will perform very well on dx11 i have been hearing.

Yea hopefully it will be as developer friendly as they claim it will be and we can start getting some decently coded games coming out based in this updated API. I am currently waiting eagerly on Starcraft 2, Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3. I am pretty sure that my PC will handle all of those just fine so I am not worried about it, but anything to help the devs out on the PC platform is welcome by me. :sol:
