Hello all.

My current system is

CPU : E6420
Motherboard : Asus P5W DH Deluxe bios 2801
vid : Asus 8800 GTX 768
8 gigs Ram OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Vista Performance Gold 2GB Edition

Will my system get a performance boost, when i plug in a
Core 2 Quad Q9550 2,83 Ghz 12MB L2C

And if so, will i notice it in games like
World of warcraft
Warhammer online?

THanks in advance for your reply.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Yes, you will see an improvement with that CPU upgrade.
Before upgrading, remember that you MUST update your BIOS to v2704 or newer.

Before you switch out the CPU, try overclocking your current e6420.
You should be able to get at least 2.66Ghz out of it.
The CPU can defiantly go higher but, unfortunately, your 975x chipset is not the best with high FSB overclocks.
I would bet that you can get enough performance out of your current CPU to tide you over till your next major upgrade.

Yes, i read something about it on the Asus website.
i downloaded the bios v2801 already :)

i play world of warcraft, and with my rig, i only get 25 fps. therefore i wanted to try another cpu.

(vista64 is my os btw, forgot to mention that before)

Well,

If noone else can give me an in depth explenation of how FSB speed should be matched or something technical like that, :) (with the spec i got, so see where the bottleneck is)
I do thank the posters for replying.

Hi,

the quad 45nm are not working quite well on the P5W DH.

Try a Q6600/Q6700 instead.

A lot of people have problems running the 45nm quad to their rated speed.
