Windows 7 constant HDD activity

Since I've been using windows 7 on both my systems (Eee PC 1005HAP), and desktop I've noticed that there is a constant amount of hard drive activity.

I don't know what it is doing, and have disabled automatic defragging etc.

Desktop does not really worry me at all, but I'm afraid that on the go it is definitely killing my battery life.....

any ideas on how to solve this?

btw, it appears that it only does this when im not using the system, (noticed on lappy since it has a noisy HDD)

maybe it is some sort of idle process.
