The driver on the realtec site will not load in Windows 7 even though it says it is for Windows 7. When the security alert pops up and says "do you want to load this driver anyway?" amd I click "yes" - the page freezes and it doesn't load beyond that point. The only alternative at that time is to use task manager and force-close the window.
However I thank you very much for the advice. The sound card is built in to the motherboard. I guess I could go and buy a pci soundcard as a last resort. The sound was working fine until I installed Windows 7 Home Premium.
Did you download the file and save it to your desktop (or another convenient place)? I've had trouble running some executables directly from the internet, but saving them and then running them has worked.
Yes, I saved the driver in my Downloads folder in Documents. Unzipped and tried to install but it locks up about 3/4 way through every time. Vista is a clean install and all other drivers work well. Just no sound. I have SP1 installed.
I tried to load it in safe mode but I got the same response. It comes to the window that says it is not certified and askes if I want to load it anyway. I click "load it anyway" it goes back to the same place. It seems to get caught in a loop. The only way to continue is to abort the installation.
I have windows vista home premium and this is the vista driver from the mfg . site.
