I'm running my rig from a TV thats max resolution is 1360x768, and am wanting a next gen card that will have great aa capabilities, mainly 2x or 4x performance. Looking to spend anywhere from $100-300. I currently have the old 8800 GTS 640 (g80 I think?), and a 8800gs 384 I picked up for $60 on newegg, thats in my second rig. I was considering running an SLI rig, but I dont' have a motherboard and really doubt it would be worthwhile getting one for either of these older cards.

I have been impressed by what I've heard about the latest ATI cards. What are the benefits to upgrading a bit more to a 4870? Would only high rez systems benefit the most? Only thing that scares me from ATI is hot temps and loud noises ;p

the reason why the 4850 is enough for your setup is because the resolution on your TV is not that high so the 4850 should not have a problem handling that resolution.

the 4xxx series from ATI, has really great AA capabilities, almost night and day compared to the 3xxx series. if you ran a higher resolution i would have recommended the 4870, but imo, the 4850 would do the job superbly at that resolution. :)

4850 would be a great card for your resolution

but make sure you have a powerful processor because at that res you'll be hindered a good bit by a slow processor
