I've just put together a new system for my housemate and we're having some problems. When the computer is switched on the monitor says that it's receiving no signal. We've tried changing the graphics card but that's not worked. If the 4 pin ATX power cable is plugged into the motherboard the CPU fan won't work, but if it's not the CPU fan works normally, which is something I've never seen before.

The system specs are:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHz CPU
Gigabyte Geforce 8600GT Graphics Card
2GB 667MHz DDR2 Memory
250GB HDD
460 Watt PSU

Thanks for any help.

PSU make & model?

It may be your power connections. Double-check that your 24-pin & 4-pin are correctly connected. Some PSUs let you split the 24-pin into 20 & 4 pins and there's where problems may occur.

Check for extra standoffs.

If the pc powers on and off in a loop, try each stick of ram in each slot and up vdimm in bios once the pc posts.

I'm not sure exactly how, but it's fixed and everything's working fine now.
