Okay so, I was going to order a new system last week (4870,p45,q6600) etc. But a friend was telling me that getting 2 x 9800gtx would be more beneficial. I will be running on a 24'' Samsung monitor (1920x1000 res) 1080p:P. Which should I get the 2 cards or the single 4870, I wanted to go with ATI but hey whatever. Crysis on high settings is a must, and the display must be crystal clear no blurring what so ever. Please leave some tips!! thanks alot.

If you're going to go the dual card route now, then you might as well get dual HD 4850. If it's not critical then I might even wait to see the release of the HD 4850 X2 and it's pricing.

Your friend is right. 2 9800gtx would be far faster than single 4870. Here's benchmark including single 9800gx2, which is basically 2 g92 cores underclocked, dual 9800gtx will perform higher.

Although, keep in mind, 2 9800gtx also cost more than single 4870. No surprise there.

The single 9800gx2 is a good deal though.

Still don't know what mobo you have... does it support crossfire or sli? No point in getting the to Nvidia cards if it doesn't support sli...

if its for future games the 4870 is the best option, the 9800gtx has had its day
onward and upward

It sounds as if you can do sli with your comments, instead of going with the 9800GTX I might suggest going for the Asus Ultimate 9800 GT. Its unlike the rest of the 9800 GT's in that instead of being a bios flashed 88gt its more of a highly overclocked 88GTS. Benchmarks have it beating the 9800 GTX, trading blows with the 4850 and for $125 after rebate at the egg, two of them would put you at the same price give or take of one 4870. Now if you actually can't do sli well then ATI hands down.

If I were you I would probably go for a single card solution rather than a SLI setup. Either a 9800GX2 or 4870X2 should just about match 2 9800GTX and should be more 'futureready' also.

an HD 4870 X2 'just about' matching the performance of SLI 9800GTX? Are you delusional? The SLI 9800GTX doesn't even come close to an HD 4870 X2. Get back on your meds... seriously.

You know, instead of getting two 9800GTX cards, you could just get a 9800GX2, which is essentially the same thing except it you will only need one PCI-E slot, and you'll save some money since the GX2 is so cheap now.

Too much guessing, too few facts. Here's some benchmarks to shed some light on this. Performance of different cards on different games at this level can get pretty erratic though. Rankings jump around quite a lot.
