My computer stopped working with no error. It is a Socket 478, P4-3.0GHz, 8x AGP. when I connect the power to the CPU, its running without any problem. If I connect the MB, the power shuts down in 10-15 seconds. Is it the MB problem or CPU?
It really sounds like a power supply issue, the easiest way to check is hook up a known good supply and test, something you may not have at hand. The motherboard manufacturer should be screened onto the board along with the model, as long as it's a brand name. If the machine is worth the money, take it to your nearest tech store and have them test the power supply, talk to them into not paying for the 15 minutes labor it'll take them, if you'll buy the new one from them...

I bought a new power supply to test. This also gave the same problem. So I doubt either the board is not working or the CPU is burnt. Is there any way I can check myself? Unfortunately, neither the socket 478 CPU nor the board is available in local stores in Boston area.
