Dead PC - Motherboard? CPU?

Last response: in Systems

I have a home built machine which ran well for years then one day it would not boot.

Motherboard ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Skt939 2.2GHz 512KB

The motherboard power light is on (on the board itself), but there is no life – no fans running nothing. I replaced the power unit – no change.

I bought a second hand motherboard (same Model) motherboard power light (on ther board itself) comes on but machine is dead.

I put an old single core CPU in - AMD Athlon 64 – Which I think is still good. No change.

Anty suggestions please?

Thanks in advance

It's usually the board that goes first, although my old A8N was working fine until I replaced it a few months back.

I suppose it could be a bad case switch ;)

Thanks Proximon.

I have now tried flashing the Power Up pins on the mobo with minimum stuff onboard.

No joy.

I think I will cut my losses and go for a complete re-build... things have moved on so much.

I apreciate your help.

Ya that was my next thing to try. It's a good time to upgrade that build... you can build a very nice computer at a good price these days.

Thanks Proximon - This problem got me looking at the hardware - I am over on New Build now getting help on a lot of new technology which is quite mind blowing!

Again thanks
