My PC crashes after i start up World of Warcraft , spore etc...
I get like squared dots all over my screen and then my screen turns black(after 5 to 10 sec)
I have tried to het my profile into 750 mhz but that doesnt work..
Does anybody has a solution i would be rly pleased with that.
System :
Asus P5Q Pro
E8400 2 DuoCore
HD 4870
4G RAM
850 WATT Coolermaster real power
Follow these instructions and turn your fanspeed up to 30 - 35% and see if that helps. If not...take it higher, if that still doesnt help then you may have a bad card because those dots that you are getting are called artifacts and they usually occur when a card either overheats or is failing. Just curious, do you have both 6pin power connectors plugged into the card?
Hello,
I have the same problem with just Spore. I have tried with both an overclock and at stock settings with the same results. Someone in another forum found that Spore does not officially list the 4870 as a supported card. I have run Crysis and Half-Life2 based games with no problem. Maybe there is a common factor between our systems.
Which catalyst drivers are you running?
Which operating system are you running?
System
ASUS P5E Deluxe (flashed to Rampage Formula)
Q6600 (3.6GHZ)
Sapphire HD 4870
8GB RAM (DDR2 800)
PC P&Q 750 Quad (Pulling 430W at Prime 95 + rthdribl)
Catalyst 8.9
Vista Bus. 64bit
I did have a problem when I originally built the system with the cpu fan not starting up. But that was because I did not hook up the two PCI-E specific power pin connectors to the Radeon. It might sound dumb, but make sure you do that. Good luck!
i'm new 2 overclocking so when i used overdrive 4 my 4870 i clicked on auto-tune which turned up the core from 750 - 835 mhz and the memory to about 1150 mhz, obviously when i tried this out on crysis it went upto 99% then a blank screen came and it crashed
so i put the settings back on the STOCK but now when i play crysis its s-l-o-w!!!
it lags for about 3 seconds every 20 seconds and is unplayable
even when the game is loading the music crashes and repeats a few times then it carries on loading....this didnt happen b4 my attempted OC
Other games like Far Cry 2 work perfect, just crysis is SLOW
any ideas???
This is my system:
Q6600 @ 3.00GHZ
4GB Ram 1066MHZ - Stock
P5K C ASUS
NZXT LEXA
500GB HD
The overclock I had from the auto-tune for my card wasn't stable in actual gaming. I have some questions for you
Is Crysis slow even when you turn down the graphic settings?
When you had the Crysis crash was it a crash to desktop or was it a complete system crash?
Have you tried reinstalling the game? (last resort)
Is Crysis patched?
And of course have you tried increasing the fan speed on the card?
In the Crysis bin folders are two or three benchmarks that will loop several times and give you the average, minimum, and maximum framerates during the test and in a log afterwards. The tests use whatever your current graphic settings are in the game so you can test your performance. My first guess with your lag in play (which I assume is in single player) if from a low framerate. Oh, In Vista 64 when I run Crysis in DX9 it is choppy and unstable but DX10 is smooth. When levels load the sound skips a couple of times but that is normal for my system.
crysis is patched, the system runs good when i put crysis on it stutters on loading
once loaded and gameplay starts it takes 10 seconds for each frame it stops then starts
anyways i got a new hard drive and i put the new GTA 4 on it and guess what, ati artifacts came all over the screen and complete system crash, i'm thinking hardware problem?
Hey, I'm from germany and I just registered here because I don't want to let you alone, I had the very same problem.
I got the SAPPHIRE HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E. Believe me or not but the only 100% way to fix this square dots problem is to flash the bios of your sapphire radeon 4870!
I tried everything, read through every forum and then in one someone told me that, this instantly helped me, though it requires some time. Since this update I never got any crash again. It seems that one charge of sapphires cards had errors, dunno.
Then choose your HD4870 ( I guess you also have the 512MB version, right?) and then under BIOS there are instructions for the flash program and the flashfile ("FOR P/N:188-01E85-001SA,SKU#11133-00-XXR ONLY" ). So it seems that Sapphire also realized it. If you have some experience with biosflashing, its no problem.
I have too problem with this card. When i play in World of Warcraft my computer crashed i have 50% speed fan and temperature is nearly 47*C but its not helping, my computer still crash. I have 9.1 driver catalist My computer: P5Q-pro Core 2 Duo E8500 4Gb DDR-2 (800) saphire radeon 4870 Corsair 650W
system : Vista basic 64bit
pls help me

my card has the same problem but it is not
FOR P/N:188-01E85-001SA,SKU#11133-00-XXR
it is
FOR P/N:188-01E85-001SA,SKU#11133-00
chkdsk /f /r <driver letter>: (it takes a long time for my 500G harddisk)
is the ati installation files or extraction got written on the bad cluster, making it installed bad inf within the windows/system/inf directory. (read this from the chkdsk process)
i used to have my 4870 1G freezed within game from time to time but not always. i play wow.
now i have smoothness 60fps with all game setting to max.
my game drive was also checked, written on bad sector/ cluster. I also reinstalled the game.
iin ur case with dots, mostly video memory went bad. i had x1900xt with that problem before.
asus p5q de luxe
intel 2 core quad q9550
msi radeon 4870
4 gb ram (2x2 kit) corsair
pwr corsair 620w
os win xp pro sp 2
on my system the problem occurs even with in simple windows-apps like firefox, sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes after 20 hours. Symptoms are from freezing screen (with and without artefacts on the upper left corner of the screen) to blue screen with artefacts and partly displayed error messages...sometimes with reset of the bios values through the system.
i just downloaded and applied the latest firmware via msi live update 3. now the system is running stable for 2 hours....let's see for how long....
