Hi,
I'm sure this type of thing is asked all the time on here but I can't seem to find the answer. Please point me in the right direction if there is a relevant thread though.

My current pc is on its last legs. I needed a new graphics card, but after a look around I've decided its probably best just to get a new machine.
I used to know plenty about whats good and whats not, but these days its moved on so far that my knowledge is too out of date. I now bow to the superior knowledge of those on the forum...

I'm after a PC for mostly online gaming. I'd like it to be upgradable in the future but not top spec right now (ie a motherboard that can take much better than I'm going to put in it).
Money is pretty tight at the moment which is why I don't want top of the range.
I would like suggestions on motherboard, processor and graphics card. The graphics card has to do shader model >3 and dx 10 (which most do!)
I have 3 monitors and currently have 2 graphics cards, perhaps I could use SLI to help here. I have 2 SATA hard drives (that are RAID striped) which I intend to keep.

So its down to you guys, any suggestions?

P5Q Pro ($140 at newegg)/650TX or 750TX ($90,$110)/HD 4850 ($153). Add a HD 4870 or another HD 4850 later when you have more money. Add a HD 3450 for $30 or so for now to handle the 3rd monitor. If your old cards are ATI you can reuse one of them, of course.

Processor: E8500 or Q6600 should be very future-proof. If they're too expensive, E7200.

Monitors are 19" and 17" for the other 2.
Budget would probably be £400 or less, which is about $700 if you are in USA.

Try www.ebuyer.com and www.scan.co.uk and www.overclockers.co.uk. I think ebuyer has the best prices more often than the others.

You don't need either SLI or Crossfire for a 19" monitor, not even in Crysis. In fact, I think it's a pain to have SLI or Crossfire and use 3 monitors at the same time. You do however need a MB with two PCI-E x16 slots because you need a second video card for the 3rd monitor.
