Here's what I have so far; my office has a three line phone system, Line ! and Line 2 are dedicated voice and Line 3 is for the fax.
I have elected to use a voice(6 pin) and a data(8 pin) keyhole wall receptacle in each room and at the reception area. The face plates are arranged vertically, with two access points to plug in the phone & computers, which will mount to the shadow boxes that I installed before the drywall was hung and finished.
Incoming service, from the phone company is already established. DSL is included.
I ran all the necessary Cat5e cable during the initial buildout of the office, when there was only studs and ceiling tile to deal with. I chose an area where I intend to use a 66 split block to transfer service from the outside, I guess it's the network interface device, or NID. I paid special attention when running the Cat5e cable, no exreme bends or tension to avoid damage, kept it away from all electrical conduit, where it came close I ensured crossing at a 90 degree angle, and used rubber grommets where necessary.
I have a split 66 block, a punchdown tool, I have the keyhole receptacles, but from this point I am not completely confident in which manner to proceed.
The area I chose to use thesplit 66 block is in a maintenance closet. For each wall receptacle I chose to run two individual Cat5e cables, I was thinking one strictly for phone and the other for data. So that's two pair of cables, eight wires in each cable to each room. Room #1, Room #2, Room #3, Room#4, and two pair to the reception area(front desk).
Can anyone help walk me through the necessary connections to be made at the split 66 block? I know that the left side is the "incoming" side and that the right side will be connected to each keyhole outlet or wall receptacle. I also know that within the cable, the wires work in pairs. Beyond that, I need some advice or technical assistance. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. Please send any answers or photos to;
