My pictures have disappeared from my disc

my laptop wrote over my photos with new ones on a dvd plus r, how can this occur?

yes it says plus r. I had been adding photos for the last 9 months to it on one computer which isa vista operating one. Then I put the dvd in my windows 7 laptop to add more. To my scock it added the new photos and the older ones were gone. Even on the other computer there was now only tne file with the new pictures.
