Had to run over and look at some older charts to refresh my memory. The 7600GT beats the 1600 in almost all the benchmarks and at all resolutions. You did'nt say if you have these cards or you are going to buy one. If buying I would add $20 and go up to a 3850 or a 7900.

How do you mean better? If you mean performance, the x1650XT is the 7600GT equivalent. All other x1600s are slower. If you mean cost, I have no idea, and it would depend on your area. If you mean features, they are very similar, though the x1600 *MIGHT* come with VIVO.

I also agree with rdb. Unless you have both these cards laying around already, you are better off spending your $$$ on something else. Both of these cards are low end by todays standards.

How are those cards compared in price to the 4650 over there in Stockholm?

Maybe you should wait for the 4550 IMO. If you're going to install Photoshop, a newer low-end card with CUDA would also be a smart move (though i've read that it uses DX and OGL).

As everyone has already alluded to... it is never a good idea to buy hardware this outdated unless the cost is free.

Buy something newer, because something this obsolete isn't worth a dime.

You should build your system around a pci-express motherboard so you can take advantage of some great deals on the much better hardware that is going obsolete. Such as:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] CatId=3690

This card will pick both the 7600GT and the X1650XT cards and slam them down on the ground hard.

There are also several other good cards for the 99.99 to 129.99 range that will do the same that are not referbished.

I agree with the others on the video, get newer stuff. The performance is much much better for the money.

Once upon a time, the 7600GT = the X1650XT. In newer games, like UT3, COD4, Crysis, etc., the X1650XT is much faster. The whole GF7 series tanks in those games. example: http://www.anandtech.com/video/sho [...] i=3128&p=4

But, the X1600XT is about like a X1650 pro. An X1600 pro is much slower. So, I would then choose the 7600GT over an X1600 series. Both are not great options IMO when cards like the HD 2600XT have been $25 AR and the 9600GSO $50 AR. Like others have said, I'd look for a deal on a better card unless the 7600GT is dirt cheap ($20 or less shipped).
