I am upgrading to an 8800 series card and im a bit confused about the letters after the number. whats the best the GT, GTS, GTX? I have an older board so I can only support PCI-Express.

PCI-E 2.0 graphic cards are compatible with PCI-E 1.0 motherboards. No need to limit yourself. In answer to your question: GTX is better than GTS which is better than GT.

Edit: Just note - the 8800 series graphic cards from NVidia come in two "flavors" the 8800GTX, 8800GTS-640 and 8800GTS-320 are based on the G80 chipset, whereas the 8800GTS-512 and 8800GT are based on the G92 chipset; G92 being the newer(better) chipset. So in this case, the 8800GTS-512(G92) is a bit better than the 8800GTS-640 (G80).

8800gts 512mb is the fastest.

Ok, there are TWO very different 8800GTS. One has either 320 or 640Mb of VRAM, the other has 512Mb. It goes like this:

8800GTX = 8800GTS 512Mb > 8800GT > 8800GTS 320/640.

That you only have "normal" PCI-e 1.0, doesn't matter. It won't have any impact on an 8800 series card.

Just so you know, the 8800GT 512 is the same as the 9800GT 512. Just get whichever is cheaper ^_^. Just make sure you have a decent power supply since it's not a good idea to plug either into something like 350W no name power supply. If you have a decent CPU and power supply you may want to consider getting a Radeon 4850.

Not really; the 8800 Ultra is just an overclocked 8800GTX. It has more memory, more ROPs, and a wider memory bus than the 9800GTX.

the 9800 GTX is an over clocked 8800GTS 512. i was trying to say they are kind of in the same class.

I would go with a newer GTX series card. My 8800 gts 640 has done well the past year and a half but its time for newer tech. Im going with a GTX280 or a 4870 1 gb card in a couple weeks.
