Ok, plain and simple. Which is better for display (eye candy, not the games just the desktop display for example) The Nvidia 9xxx series or the Radeon 4xxx series? I compared the 3870x2 with the 9600gt and the 9600 gt by far looked superb compared to the 3870x2 which had an OK look to it. (again in terms of quality).

There isn't a correct answer to that question. It all comes down to personal preference. People usually compare the default settings when deciding if they like the look of the ATI card over the Nvidia offering. Truth of it now is that either card can be calibrated to look much the same as another one.

Well, the Radeon 3800 series and up support Direct X10.1, while no Nvidia card currently does. This could someday translate into more eye candy, however it has yet to be seen.

I usually hear that ATI has the 'superior image quality' but who really knows. But, keep in mind, Nvidia has been known to dumb down their image quality for the sake of higher performing benchmarks. (AKA Crysis)
