Unless you absolutely want the "Unlocked multiplier" of the Extreme line, you could go for the Q9650 instead and save ~500$.

I think you could save a lot of $$ getting a different CPU, as suggested.

The 790i is an expensive board, and requires DDR3 memory (also expensive).

I would got with an X48 and 4870s or 4870x2s. and DDR2 and overclock.

Do you really need 1TB drives in RAID 0? I would suggest smaller drives in RAID 0, and the TB drive for storage.

Those are just things I notice and would do. Good luck.

get q9550 and 780i. you dont need ddr3......listen to other posters or spend crapload of money, nehalem comes out, prices drop on everything (your getting high end parts so the drop always will be the biggest like when 280gtx it was like $600 and now its in $400's) and you just wasted alot of money congrats!!!

I must admit that if the idea is to spend a truckload of money on a kick-ass system, waiting for Nehalem might be the best thing to do. At least you will get triple-channel DDR3 memory support and a socket that will probably be used for a couple of years.

I personally prefer to invest ~1000$ a year for 3 years on my PC than spending 3000$ right away and hope it lasts 3 years. But that is a personal preference and I'm not into high-end gaming either.

Depending on your usage and definition of "decent", a 1500-2000$ PC would probably last unmodified for ~1.5 years.

By the end of the year, Intel will have released it's new Nehalem (i7) CPUs that will use new socket and chipset so investing a fortune in "bleeding edge" systems right now is probably waste.

how much premium are they charging for that service?i mean the whole setup not just apply thermal paste!LOL

Reply to iluvgillgill

i dont know about the charging, but i know i that if i get the parts myself i will never end up getting the best out of the pc. the last one i built, once i completed i just could be bothered to tweak it to get the best out of it

90-100 pounds - that's some decent money. You could get some nice upgrades for that kind of $$$.

It's up to you, but I always like to build myself.
