Ive asked this sort of recently, Im just at a dilema as to which card I should go with here. The 4870 1gb seems to be the newer technology and the GTX280 seems to have the upper hand with bandwidth. Plus the 280 is $120 more, is it worth it? Im upgrading to a Intel Quad core and board with the new card and want a proper balance. Im not really interested in SLI or Crossfire. I also game at 1920 x 1200. Thanks for your input.

performance wise the gtx280 will probably slightly take the lead but its isnt worth 120$ more. budget wise the 4870 would be the way to go but in pure raw power gtx280.

It appears the 4870 1gig, if oceed does extremely well, possibly as good as a G280 oceed . In these benches, alot of games show a 20-30% improvement in fps over a non oceed 4870 512mb, so that puts it in the G280 oceed range. The 4870 1 gig looks to be the card to get http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid [...] M/?page=10

True, it would have been nice. I was just going by what we know, and how the G280 compares to the 4870. I think alot of people would be surprised, as this card outdoes the G216, which comes close to the G280 already, so theyre very close indeed, and I think picks up a few more wins in certain games where the extra ram held the 512 version back some

I would get the 280 because the higher bandwithn will help a lot at your resolution.

Get the 4870 1GB because it's cheaper and not that much worse. Although the 280 is better, it's not really worth the money.

GDDR5 IS higher bandwidth inclusive
