I am running XP SP2 (home). My computer has 2 USB1 and 2 USB2 ports with a 4
port hub plugged into the first USB1 with a multifunction printer and a laser
printer attached. A second 4 port hub in the first of the USB2 ports has an
inkjet printer and my wireless mouse/keyboard plus I use this to connect
memory flash stick and cameras. I recently tried installing a video-DVD unit
into the second USB2 port and ever since the machine is acting stupid!
Everything started running very slowly (keyboard and mouse were inoperative).
I used a serial mouse and PS2 keyboard to get into the machine but until I
had uninstalled a number of devices - including my printers, I couldn't get
the mouse and keyboard to work. All restore points were also wiped!
I now have only the USB2 - 4 port hub with mouse and keyboard installed and
the computer is working fine - until I try to make any change to USB
connections then everything stops again. I cannot plug in any new device nor
can I change the specific sockets for the devices I have installed.
How can i repair the USB operation??????
