Hi guys,

I'm currently looking at upgrading my pc with a new motherboard and would just like a recommendation. I have a pentium d 945 3.4ghz which I know is pretty old but would like a motherboard that supports pci-e as I plan to get a new card as well. I've been looking at the following so far. Btw, I hear reports that the Pentium D series has trouble with the ECS mobo and hits extremely high temperatures. Anyone know if mine is compatible?

ECS G31T-M (Some really good reviews on this one)
MSI G31M-F-V2
MSI G31M3-L
Asrock 4Core1600-D800

Cheers

what socket is you P4D on ? LGA775? and how much are you willing to spend on the mobo?

Yeh it's a LGA775 and looking to spend about $70 AUD as I'm in australia. I know the mobos I have listed are also widely available in the US.

Without considering the fact that components are a better deal in the US than in Australia, currency conversion means you want to buy a new motherboard for U.S. $49. You won't be happy.
ECS boards are give-aways at retail stores when you buy a cpu here in Chicago. Avoid them if you can.
AsRock has some interesting stuff for niche buyers, but all you want is a simple IGP board.
The MSI G31M3 series is about as good as it gets in this price range.

BTW, your D945 will run in either of the MSI boards without any bios revisions.

Also thinking of getting a Palit 9600GSO 768mb GDDR3 and 2gb of 800mhz Team value ram. I have a 380w Antec Neohe, it should run it right?

That is usually in comparison to high-end boards from Asus, Gigabyte, etc. Look at the alternatives. There is nothing inherently wrong with an MSI motherboard.

Should be fine.
