well I have to send back my maxumis 2 formular due due limited ocing ablitys, and i m going to replace it with a need mobo, if I get the thing back I will sell it or build a new comp out of it and sell it.

I am looking at the rampage formular
the Gigabyte x48 DS4AND 5
and the DFI lan parties TR2 i think

which one is best, I trust asus alot LOL but I want one that will last and one that is VERY good at ocing and a very stable mobo as well as very forgiving (I am still a noob at OCing) my P45 ROG lost its ablity becasue of a powersupply not cos of me btw

is there any other good DDR2 X48 mobo out there? that is NOT a MSI >.> I only trust ASUS,Gigabyte,DFI maybe FOXCONN.

my budget is about £200 i ll probley get about £120 for my old ROG maybe 100 means it might be only recondtioned:|

Well the Maximus does not have limited OCing ability's. Your a noob with limited OCing ability's.

If you can't OC on the maximus, you probably wont be able to oc at all on any board.

well seems strange that since I had it, I had it running happy at 3.6Ghz. the voltages was not all that High and the computer was VERY stable.. changed powersupply it shorted out and well thats when the problems begin. for the same OC i will need to up the voltages alot and I just don't have the confendense to do that, I am on air cooling so a extreme OC is not a good idea

my current specs
are Q6600
Maxumis 2 formular (as you know) that is getting RMA'ed
single radeon HD4870 soon to be dual
4Gb OCZ DDR2 RAM 1066
2*250Gb seagate on raid
ABS/TAGAN 1100watt BZ piper rock/thermltake toughpower700watt(backup)

If you feel like doin yourself justice and getting some better DDR3 RAM(considering your CPU FSB is 1333) right? Your memory pushes 1066 you say. Its not a huge deal but just a suggestion. Anyhow, if you do step up your RAM try Asus P5E3 Premium. I promise you wont be disappointed. Between the board and RAM it will run you $400-$450. Perhaps in the future you may want to step up to three GPUs. You certainly have the power to do it. By the way, as long as you have a freakin tornado or whirlwind effect in your case and properly disperse the hot air out, air cooling is just fine for your set-up. Remember heat rises. You may consider a new case if you are having issues there.

1333MHz FSB actually uses DDR2-667 at 1:1 ratio. If the OP was to get an X48 board with DDR3 over that, might as well switch to i7 :p.

^ Agreed, not to mention that the stock FSB/RAM speed of the Q6600 is 1066/533. He is going to OC, but his previous OC to 3.6G can be done at (400)1600/800, so his current DDR2 1066 is overkill . The whole idea of moving to DDR3 is ludicrous.

I am a fan of the DFI LP UT/LT series motherboards. I dont have any experience on the less expensive DK series but this p35 may be the best board I have used. I know with my 8400 all I adjusted off default to get to 475x9 with ram 1:1 4-4-4-12 was to set the timings and vcore (1.4) and ram voltage (2.1) with all else set to auto.

well luckerly my DDR2 ram only cost £80:p for 4Gb so what we saying here DDR3 not just cause due to my CPU. and as for I7 if I was going to get DDR3 mobo, the one I would like some I7 boards are actually cheaper but I really can be assed to pay shed loads on 3 items, form DABS with a 920i and a gigabtye mobo it would cost about £600 that is wayyy too much plus a q6600 wasted as well as RAM. But thanks for that... if I had a 9550 would that be different ? :p

The difference is that the x48 is high binned then the x38. Some say that you can get a higher overclock out of an x48. My cousin has the DFI X48 board, same exact board just the northbridge is different. as far as overclocks go, there really isnt any difference. I believe he was only able to overclock the memory better then me (same mem, G.Skill)

say if I did get DDR3 X48 mobo what speed ? 1333 seems okay, I can get 4Gb corsairs for like £100 to go with my q6600 and futre proff once so I can use them for I7 and once that won't break bank
