Do I need to format my harddrive?

I am building a new PC and everything in it will be new except my Hardrive. I will be reusing a 1t Barracuda hardrive that has Windows xp 32.

The OS I will use for the new build is OEM Windows 7 64.


If I need to format my old hardrive to use it in the new build how do I go about doing it?

Yes, you need to reformat and install the new OS

You should format while installing Windows 7, you can do it in the install setup. This is the prefered method; as Windows 7 creates partitions differently than older versions or third-party software.

A quick format should be fine; simply first delete all partitions, then hit enter on the "unpartitioned space" that remains.
