Are there key signs someone should be looking for when Oc'ing there gpu for instabilities?

Like for instance, if the core clock is too high, there might be artifacting? what about if the mem clock is too high? what should happen?

i have my gigabyte 4850 at 700/1198, and after about 100mins of furmark, i see some slight artifacting.. so I exited the program.. what should I lower? I have an aftermarket heatsink on it, and on load it doesn't go passed 67C for the core, and the mem doesn't go higher than 78C, but there are no heatsinks on the memory ic's

should i put some on there? would it help the artifacting? or is it the lack of voltage? using the gigabyte gamer hud, i see my 4850's gpu is at 1.19volts, and i put my memory at +.03volts...

i know i've been askin alotta questions, jsut want the most out of my 4850... [i've seen the hard OC bios's, i don't know, i just don't trust them..besides, i don't know if my card is the original one, so i don't know if the bios will work or not]

you need more juice to stabilize that beast :d I have 4850 also with aftermarket heatsink and at 700core its just not stable enough. I play on 670core and it seems fine then

5th picture down... i don't think i have enough clearance to get some heatsinks on the ram =[

if you know of some low rise heatsinks, maybe i can get them on it... i'm voiding my warranty anyhow by playing with the voltage/rebate =P

i can't get the core up any higher than that, i've tried, i still get artifacting...

oh and question, which ones are the vrm's and which one's are the mosfets? they should be cooled too right? does anyone know if this gigabyte 4850 is manufacturer design?

*edit*
after running furmark for 130mins @ 1680x1050 w/ 8xmsaa at speeds of 720/1098, i got absolutely no artifacting! but one thing... my minimum dropped from 16fps to 13, my max dropped from 34fps to 29, and avg dropped from 21 to 19 =[
