I have ASUS K8V-MX mobo with AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 1.8 GHz on it, using it from last 3 years: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx? [...] odelmenu=1

I see the BIOS has an overclocking option. If I overclock, will it do any harm or will reduce the life of the CPU or is it just beneficial in all ways ?

means its been going for a long time already, it might be close to the end off its life.. if you are going to oc it don't do it too much. For reason, if you do it too much it might just give up on ya.

I m not that good with ocing so i can't tell ya what exctly to do and what not to do. nor do I know the max voltage for that CPU

go to the manufactures website to check the maximum voltage for your cpu and do not go past it!!!
also check the specifactions for your mobo voltages e.g northbridge voltage and southbridge voltage.

also keep an eye on your tempuratures make sure they dont go past about 65C, use prime95, orthos or (to really check your heat) use intel burn test - these programs will make sure your cpu and ram is stable.

before OCing it might be a good idea to check online to see if anyone else has OCed with similar specs as you, just so you can get a rough idea on what you need to do.

Good Luck, hope i was some use to you.
