Installing Second SATA HD

Hello,
I have a second SATA HD I'm trying to install. I am running Windows 7 on my main HD and XP exists on the second HD (I want to format the drive once I get it running). Main HD is plugged into SATA slot 1, I plugged the second HD into SATA slot 5 on my Mobo but when I rebooted, it kept giving me the XP startup screen and wouldn't boot properly. What am I doing wrong?

Check to see that you have the correct HDD set as the boot device in the bios, and check the mobo manual to see if some slots are better than others for the main drive (I think that mine recommends 5&6)
