Blue Screens and other errors/failures

I helped build my roommate a new computer.

Gigabyte GA EP45T-Extreme
Intel Q9550
4 OCZ DDR3 1600 2 x 2GB
Antec NeoPower 650W
Sapphire ATi 4870

He has been getting blue screens recently, always detailing the location on the ram but never a file that caused it. So we got to thinking it was the ram that was at fault. I got out a memory testing program of mine to run through it over night. Today it showed several errors. We decided to systematically test the memory 1 stick at a time. The computer failed to start with one stick of ram on the mobo. We tried putting it back in, and still nothing.

I tried the paper clip jump start test with the PSU and it failed to start. Could the power supply be the problem from the start?

Yes.

That doesn't mean it was the problem. Did you update the BIOS?

If it won't start at all now and you have double checked all the connections, then I suppose you should swap out the PSU and see what happens.
