Alright so i am building a new computer for myself and its cheap...really cheap haha, was wondering what kind of performance i can expect to get out of it

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Mobo: Asus P5KPL-CM Socket 775 Intel G31

Memory: OCZ (OCZ2P8004GK) DDR2 PC2-6400 Vista Performance Platinum 4GB (2x2048) Kit Dual Channel

Video Card: Palit geforce 8500+ 1gb

HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 500GB 3.5" SATAII 7200rpm 16MB (0A35415)

Using Vista Ultimate

So like i said its cheap, but i use it a lot for file sharing, photoshop, browsing and occasionally wow or cod4, would this be able to handle some games half decently?

I wouldn't use that motherboard. Look for a P43 board if you can. If not then a P35.

I'd swap the 8500GT for this HD2600XT 256MB GDDR4. I'm guessing it's about the same price, only $56 (shipped & after MIR), and it'll be a significant improvement over the 8500GT.

And I'd really try to sqeeze in one of the 640GB HDDs. I haven't seen benchmarks on the Seagate and Samsung 640's, but the WD6400AAKS will definitely be faster and the other two are the same architecture. The Seagate has the longest warrenty, but the Samsung is $5 cheaper on Newegg ($80 as opposed to $85; all with free shipping). Judging from the rest of your build, an extra $20 on the HDD might not be possible but I'd strongly consider it.
