Hey all im about to build a new gaming pc and was wondering if this build would be able to hold me for the next 2 years.

MoBo - http://microcenter.com/single_prod [...] id=0280427 nforce 780i 775 atx mobo (plan to add another GPU)
OS - http://microcenter.com/single_prod [...] id=0294708 Vista home premium 64 bit
CPU - http://microcenter.com/single_prod [...] id=0283289 core 2 quad q6600
DVD drives - http://microcenter.com/single_prod [...] id=0293535 2x lightscribe 22x dvd + rw burner
for my PSU i have a 600w OCZ Stealth Stream that i got for free...i'd like to use it instead of buying a new one but am not sure it will be powerful enough.
GPU - I already own a gtx 260 superclocked edition
Case - already have antec 900
HDD - haven't decided yet any tips?

My uses will be primarily for gaming. im trying to get about 30-40 fps on crysis would this system be strong enough?

Parts look good.

Gaming performance is most dependent on graphics card. See this chart showing average fps in Crysis, Shaders at Very High, all other settings at High.

You will probably want a better powersupply if you do add another GPU later. I wouldn't trust a 600W unit to power two 260 GTXs, which would cause it to run on (not quite) full load all the time.

that psu will be fine though if like many people you don't plan on a SLI/CF configuration. The majority of the time if you don't pick up a pair immediatly then it makes no sense to go the dual GPU route anyway as there will be a newer/cheaper/better card on the market by then.

you might want to think about budgeting $50 for some decent cooling especially if you want to experiment with some overclocking of that CPU.

Change one of the DVD drives. Sometimes a game copy protection misbehaves on a drive and works on another - but your chances are much better if it's not the same type of DVD drive.

Your PSU is barely acceptable for one GTX 260 card. Absolutely no way to use it for two. BFG recommends 38A combined on the 12V rails for a system with a single GTX 260, and two PCI-E 6-pin connectors per card. The StealthXstream 600W has about 35A, and two connectors. It will work, because the recommendations are padded, but it's a poor choice. I wouldn't recommend it if you didn't have it already.

You will get about 30 or 35 fps in Crysis at 1280x1024 with high settings. I don't have benchmarks for GTX 260 right now, but GTX 280 and HD 4870 get 37 and 38 fps respectively and they're the next best things after GTX 260.

It's rather strange that those frame rates on that legitreview benchmark seems lower across the board than the anandtech one. The 1280x1024 one is especially low, considering the low resolution and no AA. My old 8800gts does 50+ fps avg in Crysis timedemo at those settings.

A gtx260 should really do better in reality, not to mention the other cards on there. Maybe their test rig is flawed in some way?

Cool, that's good news for the OP :)

The reviewers used a QX9770. They don't mention overclocking so I assume they ran it at the default 3.2 GHz. Your 3.6 GHz Q6600 is faster, and that may explain some of the difference.

Maybe the reviewers have spyware slowing down their machine :ouch:

Still, all the frame rates at 1280x1024 no AA are in the 30s! With only 9800gx2 above 40. Compared to my single 8800gts at 52 fps avg. And notice how the 9800gx2 blows away dual 4870s? Seems wrong no matter what... :p
