Yes I know that the 4870 would be faster but what I am curious about is by how much, if the benchmarks are similar to the 4850, then I suppose that gives me my answer. Thanks.

Thats just plain bull. The 8800GTX has to be faster than the 9800GTX then
You have to realize that chart is overall performance, which includes high resolutions and AA settings, where 8800gtx's higher memory bandwidth and more ram helps compensate for lack of gpu power.

Those use different settings. The benchmarks you picked runs a few games at specific resolutions with no/low aa/af, which favors higher gpu and lower memory performance.
These benchmarks run from 12x10 to 25x16, you obviously didnt look, and they run 4xAA, no AA 2xAA and more, so dont keep showing the same 2 benchmarks. I like histiry for the facts, and anyone can use a few small things to try and paint qa different picture. And, like I said, the 9 series did change their compression ratios for the better, and it wasnt a simple shrink as you claim. Look that up as well, and Im sure you wont find it in those 2 areas youve linked to, or maybe you will but need to actually read them. I know Im right on this, no doubt whatsoever. To say its only clocks doesnt explain the 40 benchmarks from the 5 sites Ive used, so look it up, theres more to it than a dumb shrink

Hmmm its a bit iffy to reference just 2 benchmark sites in your argument, leaning heavily on techpowerup. Its a good site but not the be-all-and-end-all of benchmarks. Overall the 9800gtx beats the 8800gtx except at higher resolutions with 4xAA or more, but then again this is the rv770's speciality, so all in all i would say the 4850 shades the ultra out, especially in some newer titles, ...just to add to the general argument going on here.
