no... even going for a 1000 may have no effect.

You entire system still pump the same Watt. Maybe 5-10 watt more cause off the biggest thing .....

I have a 600W and my system pump from 200 idle to 320 gaming. Its not pumping 600W all the time. well its NEVER ! if you use 100% or your PSU all the time, the lifespam gonna be SHORT.

the reason i ask is i just went from fsp bluestorm 550w to a 750w Xclio Greatpower, supposedly its got a 87%+ Efficiency but my bill has jumped about £40 a quarter, its got me stumped

Xclio? Yuck.

Remember that PSUs are most efficient at/near the middle of their output range. (as wide as 20-80%) Below or above this, they aren't as good. If these PSU are equal at efficiency, and most of your load is around 200, then the 550W PSU should be cheaper to run then the 750W. If the Xcilo is supposed to be even more efficient however, it should drop your bill, not raise it.

It is the holiday season, any chance its just the lights?

hmmm... it shouldnt really make a noticable difference, if the components are the same then the draw should be evry similar.

its quite a complex thing to figure out, especialy when you consider that a psu's efficiency will change with how much load it has on it. generaly psu's are the most eficient around the middle of their rated wattage, dropping off by maybe 25% or more at high and low loads.

could be that your 750w psu is loaded near the low end of its range most of the time making it less efficient.

where as the 550w may have been loaded closer to its high efficiency band in the middle most of the time... impossible for me to tell though, just a thought.

how many USDs $$ should a power bill go up with NO computer running in the house, to having a high-end gaming rig running full time, idling often, and then gaming maybe 20 hours a week? How much should that roughly cost?
