hey, i'm wondering how much it would cost to get wi-fi for a school...
my budget is about $3000.... is it doable?
its a high school, 1200 students... if there was wifi i can guesstimate that a maximum of 300 people will be connected... and thats stretching it.
the school has three floors on top of each other, each about 150m long and the building itself is about 20-30m high... any other details?

You want a full cover?
What security lvl you will need?
What existing infrastructure you got? What can you do your self, will you need outsourcing? etc....

i can do all the installation myself. cover is preferably full. APs can be plugged directly into the school's existing ethernet ports (in every classroom), which will be firewalled and secure.
cheers

I think it is possible. Get wireless router or AP to test the coverage for for optimal installation it will help you to determine how many AP's you will need. If you will be able to get reception through the ceiling, consider to place more AP's on second floor. Than find optimal AP and quantity for your budget and place them in optimal locations.
I don't know about legal terms in your country, but in order to avoid some inconvenience, i recommend to log all connections and block p2p and such.
