I just built my first PC to replace the last Dell I'll ever own.

I have the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R mobo and will need to change the cpu cooler before summer (no a/c in this old farm house).

I used the Antec Three Hundred case whitch is just a touch over 8" wide.

My question is does the mobo rely on some of the airflow from the stock intel cpu cooler blowing air down on the board? Or can I use a crossflow cooler like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 835202007?

It doesn't depend on it, especially if your case has good cooling like the antec 900 or 300 have. Check out reviews of coolers at www.frostytech.com and some other good reviews at www.hardwarecanucks.com

I was wondering what some others may have used who had the same model mobo as I do. I just don't want the hassle of dealing with clearance issues is all. If possible I'd like to stay away from the push pins as well.

I'm really busy right now, but a little later I'll post a 'how-to' on scaling pictures that I think needs to be available - before I popped for a MOBO, I had everything scoped out to within a couple of hundreths of an inch, as I had REAL clearance issues with LOTS of stuff:
