Hi

Forgive me if I've totaly misunderstood how Mobipocket works.

I want to download a secure Mobipocket text from Franklin.com, it's
not available from the mobipocket website.

As I understand it, if I change my PDA or reinstall, my PID will
change and the text will no longer work. Does that mean I end up
having to buy it again?

Thanks

Maybe. It depends on how you reinstall your PDA.

But that's the reason that I avoid DRM like the plague. Remember that
"secure" eBook means that it is "secure against you giving it to someone
else". It doesn't mean that your investment in it is secure.

I really wish I could avoid it, but can't; it's a med textbook I
really need, and there's no other way to get it.

Presumably I'd have to have the original setup file to get the same
PID on my PDA.

If I didn't, I'd have to contact them or something?

Ya, if you had a Palm and you did a restore, the Palm should have the same
user ID and Hot Sync ID as before - meaning that all your registered
programs should work just fine.

If it doesn't, then, ya, I'd contact them and see what they would do.

There is an article in the Mobipocket FAQ matching your question. You
should go on the Mobipocket website directly to get the answer.

Hm. Not to sound harsh, but a link would have been useful. Having
looked at the FAQ, I've found nothing that directly answers my
question. Perhaps you didn't understand it.

It concerned DRMed downloads from non-Mobipocket.com sources.
