Hello, I just joined because I need some assistance in resolving a problem with my video card and an external device.

I wanted to watch movies from the internet and play games on my TV. I went out and bought a S-Video cable with 9 ends on each side.

I connected it and got video signal going to my tv, however there is one slight problem which I cannot seem to get rid of that I need assistance with. When I connect the S-Video up there is a buzzing sound which will not go away. (banging head against wall)

Can someone please tell me how to resolve this so I can enjoy watching movies on my big screen tv. Also the S-Video signal seems to produce scan lines like when the tracking is off on a vcr. They move up the screen from a very slow pace.

My TV is a Curtis Mathis GP4650 A102 (1984) 'still going strong'
My Video card is a Nvidia 8800GTX (2006) 'eventually to a GTX280'

Thanks

You have a TV from 1984 that has svideo? I assume you meant 9 pins on each end, not nine plugs.

Its odd that you have a hum, seeing as svideo don't transfer audio. It is video only. My guess is that the TV can't handle the signal being feed it, and the buzzing noise is the sound the TV is making as its dying. You might be able to make it go away by lowering the refresh rate in the video card drivers. My AMD card new I plugged my Svideo into a TV, and set it up automatically. Make sure your drivers did the same.

According to the Svideo wiki, 9 pin svideo is for VIVO found on many cards. (Mine included) Are you sure you don't need a special cord that plugs in between the cable and the card? For example, I have a short 4inch dongle that plugs into my 9 pin port, that splits into two cables, one for video in, the other for video out.

Yep, from back in days when they used to make them with wood frames :)

As you will see, its still going strong... 24+Years now
The only problem I have with it is the buzzing sound when I connect S-Video

I've been telling myself for years that its time to upgrade to widescreen, but as you can see... *Shrugs*

HERE IS A QUICK PIC... Enjoy

You are correct I mean to say 9 pins.

My S-Video connector on the back in 9 pins and the one on my video card is 9 pins.

Odd I know

I lost my 8800GTX adapter which had the four or five extension cables coming off the video card when connected, so I simply ran a 9 pin in the video card to a 9 pin directly to the tv.

And thats probably the problem. My guess is you need this dongle for things to work properly. Without the dongle, the video card is trying to do video in and video out, which is cause your TV to hum. (I'm still assuming its the TV.) Hit up ebay or some forums to see if you can't get that dongle.

Nvidia dislikes tvs from my experience I have four cards that i can use in my htpc its the 5200 9250 9800 7300gt all of them are ok but its only the 7300gt that offload the cpu using vlc player completely unfortunately both my nvidia cards shows black and white on my screen with all tested resolutions and formats. Im using a s video to composite cable seeing tv don't have s video any suggestions ? Btw i have a pal tv.

I had the same problem. Another forum had an idea. The hum, which comes through the video cable from the computer, is caused by grounding and related to my Time Warner cable connection to the TV. So I removed the coaxl cable connection and the humming stopped and the "noise" on the picture cleared up too. I found if I don't tighten the cable connection all the way the hum stops and the cable picture is also fine. I would still like to see if I can add a ground somewhere and be able to tighten the cable. Good luck.
