I just got my new monster PC together this weekend and I am trying to Crossfire two 4870 x2s on a Asus P5E3 Premium Wi-Fi motherboard in a CoolerMaster cooling master CM stacker case.

Has anyone tried to put 2 of these cards on this motherboard using the blue PCI x16 slots instead of one in the x16 and one in the x16 black slot?

They used this motherboard to in the 4870 x2 reviews but they never showed a picture of them installed. The bottom card will not fit on the bottom black PCI x16 slot because the CM stacker has a plastic bracket there and also I have to have my power supply on the bottom of the case not to mention that there are usb and power switch connectors right next to the x16 black slot. If I were to try to install a 4870 x2 in the bottom x16 black slot this case does not have another card slot on the back of the case under the motherboard for the 4870 x2's heatsink to blow hot air out the back of the case.

I really would like to use the the two x16 blue slots but the top 4870 x2 card is sitting on top of the the bottom 4870 x2 card and the fan is obstructed. When I put on the power leads the 8-pin pushes up on the top card and then there is room for some air flow into the heatsink but I think the card is suppose to stay horizontal to the motherboard.

Also this board shares the IRQ number on the blue slots. Anyone know if there is a way to separate it in the BIOS?

I really donot want to send it back or try to get another motherboard and have to reinstall the cpu memory etc.

I have thought about using some kind of water cooling for at least the top card that were the water block would take up less room then these stock GPU heatsinks and my Zalman 9700 nt is enough for my CPU.

There are waterblocks for this card. I would want one that covered the entire card. Has anyone tried some kind of water system that could fit in the front of a full tower case like this where the radiator could go in the drive bays?

I have not installed the second card since installing windows but is it a good thing to have something pushing up on the card even if it is about 5 to 7 mm?

Put a spacer between the cards near the back to maintain the gap at the back the same as the gap at the front, there will be sufficient space for cooling. Use of the black slot would kill the performance on the second card.

What kind of spacer are you talking about?

Spacers like these?

well, if that psu is anything like mine, which runs, actualy, quite cool, it will blow COOL air (yes my corsair tx750 blows cold air) up onto the cards, thus keeping them cool
