Hello, I have a vaio laptop with (fried)sata hdd. Can I put a sataI or sataII, or 1.5gb or 3gb replacement drive in it? Does it matter? Are the connections different?

Solution
SATA 1.5Gbps (150MB/s) and 3.0Gbps (300MB/s) are compatible with eachother, so any SATA replacement disk will do.

Some older 1.5Gbps controllers had problems with detecting newer 3.0Gbps disks though, that's why some SATA HDDs have jumpers to limit them to 1.5Gbps. In most cases, this shouldn't be required; only if it doesn't appear to detect your drive.
