CD Rom Install Problems

CD Rom just installed.

Device Manager detects drive, but I cannot ready anything from the disk???

Manufacturer is AOPEN Model CD-956E/AKH

Do I need to install original manufacturers driver or can I use the windows driver.

The windows driver says everything is ok, but I cannot read discs????

If the unit is SATA interface, the Sata controller has a native system driver. Same with IDE, native system driver. There is no Aopen original Mfg. driver, the unit uses the native Windows driver for the controller. Sounds like a bad unit that needs to be replaced.

thanks, not sure why everything indicates that the device is ok and the dam thing doesn't work. As you say it could be just a faulty unit.

If SATA, try a different SATA cable (plug in to different sata port). If IDE, be sure the jumper is correctly configured and try a different cable.
