Hello,

I'm looking at getting more memory for my now almost 2 year old machine.
I Think I am going to get the OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066

First, Im Wondering if I will be able to run them on my current motherboard. EVGA Nforce 680i. My Motherboard says it only support ram at 800mhz. This means that my Ram will just down clock to 800mhz. I think.

Second I'm wondering if this Ram, which will cost me maybe 50bucks will be an upgrade from what I am currently using. Corsair Dominator 6400 4-4-4-12. 2 X 1GB Which cost me almost 500dollars when I got them.
Its double the Ram but maybe I'm missing something and it wont really improve performance.

Thanks a lot for your help! This could solve some concerns I have been having.

If you are using Vista or planning on using Vista then you will see an improvement from increasing the amount of RAM you have, keep in mind that with a 8800GTX in your system you will have access to slightly less than 3gb if your using a 32bit OS.

The Reaper you linked is actually DDR2 800. In fact most memory sold at speeds higher than 800 are really just 800 which is guaranteed to be able to overclock to a certain speed. It likely has settings programmed into the SPD chip on it for 667, 800 and 1066. Download and run CPUZ and click the SPD tab with the RAM you are currently using and you will see what I mean.

If you are using 32bit XP I would say that you won't see a noticeable improvement over what you currently have.

I'd stay away from OCZ stuff, as it is often spec'd for a voltage higher than the DDR2 standard 1.8-1.9V.
