Hi guy's.

Never been really interested in overclocking until recently.

With the new board I got (MSI P55 GD65) has a overclocking feature called a 'OC Genie'

Should I use it to overclock, or should I do it manually?

And what is a safe speed and temp for an i5 750 (With stock standard fan)

Here is my computer details:
i5 750
MSI P55 GD65
G Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz (4gb) (2x2gb)
XFX GTS 250

Suggestions highly appreciated :)

Yup, manually as jsc suggested.
Your mobo will probably shut down by itself if your temps get too high, which is about 72.7c for an i5.

I suggest picking up a cpu cooler, hyper 212+ is an awesome choice for $30. I use it personally and have my i5 oc'd to 3.9 running 24/7.

if u want a moderate overclock without bothering with the bios , u can use the genie feature .... if it isnt successfull , then dont worry because that is due to this feature having problems with some psu's ...

Not familiar with OC genie but if it's akin to CPU level Up on Asus Boards, then it *is* manual overclocking, they just pre-picked your settings. It is a great way to "start" your fiddling as the manufacturer has determined that these settings will work.

From there tweak your settings manually. This will let you dial in the best settings but the provided genie feature should save you a lot of fiddling along the way and get you immediately "into the ballpark".

Safe temps won't change by what cooler you have. An aftermarket cooler will just let you use a much higher OC at that same temp. My son's build is showing a CPU Temp the 24/365 setting @ 3.7 Ghz of 46 w/ core temps at 58/54/55/54 under 100% load. Cores drop to 35/32/34/33 at idle.

before installing hyper 212+ , which frankly was a pain to remove the motherboard and all , my stock heatsink with its own factory applied thermal paste managed around 3.2 on all 4 cores (max around 160 bclk) before easily getting around 75 C ... the stock heatsink is not that good . and i have good airflow on the CM 690 .
