Hello guys .... I need help. I just got my a new computer, is a Gateway and it has a Nvidia 700/63i for motherboard ...
I am running Win Vista 64X. I got a performance score of 4.8 in the windows vista performance. As am sure you know, this score is determined by the lowest one. My lowest score is on the Memory RAM.
The Motherboard only has 2 slots and they are occupied with 2x2 Gig memory cards. I have been told that Vista 64X allows you to have 8 Gigs as maximum.
Based on the above ... These are my questions:

- I Believe that Samsung came out with a single 4 gig memory card (1 x 4 gig) http://www.memorydeal.net/assets/img/1904_3_600w.jpg. I could eventually get 2 of this. Do you think it will work?
Also, the motherboard specs says that it can only support 4 gigs, but is reasonable to think that it says this because, at the time, the maximum you could get was 2x2 gigs. What do you think?

- If there is no way to put more memory in it ... then how can i utilize the maximum performance of the 2 slots that I have ... meaning, can I get a different brand, different cooling method. Basically I just want to know if they (memories) are competitive between the same kind. Or is it that if I have 4 gigs that's that?

- My main thing is to get maximum performance out of this 2 slots, wheter it is with better / faster memory, or overclocking maybe ... I dont know, please help me.

I was also thinking on downgrading to Windows 32x so that I can get 5.9 in everything .... but it seems to me that is kind of fake.

Can you help me?
Thanks much in advance!!

4 gigs of memory is enough for a 5.9 score in vista 64bit

so you probably have 4 gigs of slow ram, check the latency timings and also check the mhz
example : 800mhz running at 4-4-4-15

also post your motherboards specs for the RAM, say for example your motherboard is capable of RAM as fast as 1200mhz, but your using RAM as slow as 667, then it would be easy to gain better performance, simply upgrade your RAM.

You DO NOT need 8gigs of RAM, the other day i put my friends RAM in my system to give a total of 8gig of ram and it made no difference what so ever, your computer simply will not use it.

Look on aria.co.uk or ebuyer.co.uk for good RAM, i would suggest Crucial Balistix PC2 6400 4-4-4-12

Tip: try to get more Mhz for lower timings.
Good Luck, hope i was of some help to you

WOW!! .. Thanks so much. You were certainly a lot of help.
I am posting bellow what I believe to be my specs so that you can get a better picture. I asked one of teh guys in the "Geek squad" he completely discourage me, at least you give me some hope.

If you need any other information whatsoever let me know ... And again thanks for helping me!!

I checked the PC model you have. You have 667MHz memory modules, which are the reason for low score on RAM.
I have to say that OMGiTzzFATAL was right, but your motherboard might not support higher frequency memory.

Mainboard: Gateway MS-7399
I can't get any specific information for MS-7399 motherboard. Obviously, it is not MSI, as I thought at first.
Can you check the manual if you have one? Make sure it supports higher memory speeds before upgrading.
Wish you luck!

your RAM is 5-5-5-15 i belive @ 667 mhz to be honest thats terrible.

Id advice you to type your mobo's name and model number into google or check on the manufactures website for the maxium RAM frequency.
Hopefully it will be at least 800mhz, which means all you have to do is buy some RAM that runs at 800mhz, like i said before 4gig of crucial balistix PC2 - 6400(800mhz) 4-4-4-12 timings will give you alot better performance and definately 5.9 on the vista.

Theres the link to good memory, but like ahmadfuzal said check BEFORE you upgrade, let me know how you get on

Hello guys, Thanks again for your help ... I went to Crucial as you recommended it asks you to select your computer from the drop down menu. I selected mine Gateway "GT 5678" and it says it showed me the ballistic one that you recomended :) ... Can I go by this?

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=GT5678

I have been trying to find the maximum speed for the Nvidia 7100/630i (Mobo) But I cant find it.

Get the DDR2-800 pc2-6400 ram. however don't rush and just buy the cheapest set you find; there is a reason it will be the cheapest. Find a kit that has the lowest latency timings. This decreases the time your computer has to wait for the memory to respond (making your computer faster) and will give you the best memory upgrade. Amazon.com has some of the lowest prices around on the best name brands of ram. Newegg is good too.

Also, Vista 64 bit is not really necessary on your computer since you only have 2 dimms for memory and can only support 4 gb. Vista 32 bit would have been sufficient. The 64 bit version is only useful to computers that can support over 4 gb of memory.
