Hi Guys,

I have the following rig:

i5 750
ASUS P7P55D Pro
Thermaltake Silent 1135 cooler
Coolermaster CM 690
4 GB OCZDDR3 1600mhz memory
ASUS EAH 5770 video card

I've populated all the fan slots with 120mm fans except the side panel under the motherboard, as I didn't have a thin enough fan handy at the time.

I attempted to oc this rig to 4Ghz first using 20x200 then using 21x190. Both times the cpu temps idled around 45c and jumped to around 84c after 10 mins of Prime 95. What's safe for this cpu? Is this a decent temp, or should I throttle back? Perhaps re-seat the cooler or re-apply the thermal paste?

Thanks!

I think 72.x is max which I think is cpu temp seen in BIOS which translate to approx 75 -> 80 for the cores. My self I do not like pushing above 60.

That said, if you want 4 GHz, you will need a better cooler. This includes myself as I clocked my i5 to 3.8 and it was running stable, but my core temps were 69 -> 70 C. I have the 9700 cooler. I backed off to 3.2 GHz (15 x 200). Bear in mind that you are not going to run all 4 cores at 90% load under normal use. Use a program the shows min/max temps then run your most intensive applications to find out what you will see on a day-day basis.

You will find several threads on this by googling "Maxium temp for I5"
