I just bought an ASUS 4870 512MB open box for $199.
Great price so decided to buy as I am in the process of building my computer. I don't have all of my parts together yet so my computer is now complete, but in the mean time I can't decide if I should sell my 4870 and get the 9800 GX2 now that it is lower in price.
I think you should just keep it, then buy another one latter to crossfire it. After all you're probably not gonna get back what you paid for it so you'd be loosing money if you just sold it.

actually, i thikn you'll have people lined up for that 4870 on amazon... but tbh, try it out... if your not satisfied with it than go with the 9800gx2... id personally stay with the 4870, not up to relying on 'luck of the scaling'
for 200$ the 4870 seems to have a better P/P ratio. But if it was me, I'd either push for the GX2 (since it has a big gap in performance between itself and the 4870) or go fo rthe 1 gig version of the 4870 since it has a longer lasting appeal, and games will end up using a greater amount of textures PLus LCDs are becoming cheaper and cheaper, and if you choose to get a bigger 1 you won't need to be as afraid about the Ram holding you back
