The new Intel Quads are coming out later this year. you might want to wait for those but those will have a new Socket. So if you are upgrading the CPU on your LGA 775 Board then you should save up a little more and get a Q9450.

Get a Q6600. It will work fine with your MB and RAM and all you pay is $190 or so.

With an i7, you'd pay about $300 for the CPU, $200 MB, $300 4GB of DDR3.

You can get a HD 4870x2 and a Q6600 with that kind of money, and it would completely humiliate the i7/DDR3/HD 3870 combination in games.

Go with the 9450, open box. Nice cache, and it'll oc very stable @3.2.

Quad core and 3+ghz will last you 4 years. No sense waiting for next generation unless you want your rig to win awards.

Hmmm, open box CPU.... Somebody bought it, tried it, decided this particular CPU doesn't overclock at all, he returned it. Or somebody bought it, the cat fried it with an electrostatic discharge, he returned it. Or it was dropped in a glass of Pepsi, or some pins were bent, etc etc. It's a bit risky IMO.
