First time build. I think everything should be compatible. Here is the list:

Case - Sunbeam Transformer Case
PSU - OCZ GameXStream 700W ATX12V SLI Crossfire
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L LGA 775
Processor - Intel Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4Ghz LGA 775
Cooler - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU cooler
Video card - XFX GeForce 8800GS XXX 384MB 192-bit GDDR3
DVD - LG 20X SATA DVD burner
Hard drive - WD Caviar SE16 640GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
RAM - OCX Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-pin DDR2 800

I already have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and a 22-inch monitor. This system will have Vista (probably 64-bit) and will use it for Office apps, music production, some gaming, and running several VMware sessions at times.

The hard problem I had was choosing a motherboard. I went for the top rated one on NewEgg in my price range. But, I would like to have 2 IDE connectors without getting a separate PCI card and take up a slot since I have a few larger IDE hard drives that I want to keep. From what I've read, using a PCI-based IDE controller is significantly slower compared to ones that are built in to a motherboard. Can anyone confirm this? It looks like new motherboards are phasing out the 2 IDE connectors and only putting 1 on the boards nowadays.

Does this list look good? After rebates, tax, and shipping, I can get all of this for $735.87 from NewEgg.

Thanks in advance!

One IDE connector will support 2 hard drives.

This is all fine, but you can adjust a few things.

1. You do not need a 700W PSU with this build. The OCZ 600W (any of them) would work fine. If you really want the 700W to last for future builds, good for you... but you can trim there. Honestly, some 500W PSUs would be fine here as well.

There is nothing wrong with the motherboard you chose, except that it's the last generation. P45 is the more modern chipset, or P43:

Get a 650TX from www.buy.com.

If you play games and can upgrade the video card to HD 4850 do it. If you don't play games, an 8500GT or HD 3450 is enough.
