Phenom x3 3.7ghz vs x4 3.5

I use my pc mostly for gaming. I want to have the best performance using my 720 phenom. I can have it at 3.5 if I activate the 4th core. But I can crank it all the way up to 3.7 and still trying with only 3 cores. I know that games now only use 2 cores but is the extra 200-300mhz worth ocing my 720 or should I leave it at 4cores at 3.5ghz. and will at that speed can a 5970 play nice on it without loosing any persformance?

3 cores at 3.7Ghz will give you a slight boost compared to 4 cores at 3.5Ghz in most games but the performance gap is too small to even compare.

If you want to see some real numbers you should try running a bench of 3dmark06 using both setups =) .

I did the test and it proved to be better with the 4th core so im going to keep the 4th core.

You got a higher overall score as a quad? The CPU score will be higher but the overall score should be in favor of the higher clock.

im not messing with my settings anymore because I have it at 3.64 with the X4. at 3.75ghz I scored 15k last time this time im a little over 17k. I will post my current score soon.
