Can I easily overclock a Core i7-920 to match i7-965 performance? I really want the i7-965 but I guess it makes more sense to get the Core i7-920 and try to overclock it. So if I manage to overclock the i7-920 will it be about the same as buying a i7-965? Thanks.

The 920 should reach 3.7-3.8GHz fairly easily, and maybe 4 with some work. The 965 should also reach 3.8 pretty easily, 4 with a little more effort, and probably 4.2-4.3 with a bit more work. So the 965 will go a bit higher, but not a lot, and both will be extremely fast when overclocked.

Well if you mean stock performance you should be able to get pretty close. But remember that the i965 has a 6.4GT QPi where as the i920 has a 4.8GT QPI so it wont always reach the exact potential.

But 3.2GHz should be easily doable.

yeah thats like getting an e8400 and overclocking it to e8500 specs. i mean even e2180's can do that..

too easy to get the 920 to 965's level.
