My wireless button does not work on my compaq laptop

Are you talking about the hardware on/off button to turn off wireless? How do you know it's not working? Are the wireless drivers installed? Were you able to connect before? If you look in Device Manager, is the wireless network card listed with no errors?

It would normally have to do with drivers. If you have not installed the drivers designed for your hardware, you may not get all the features working. I would go to the HP website and locate your laptop model, then find the support section to download drivers for the wireless card.

Use this page http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html and click the "Download drivers and software (and firmware)" radio button, then search for the model number in the box provided.
