Cannot Read Boot Disk from the CD/DVD ROM

Hello,
I did a reimstallation of the Windows XP OS and the installation failed prematurely, the laptop restarts and takes me back to where the installation was interrupted and asks for the Windos XP SP2 Disc, inserted the disc in the CD ROM then click OK but did not seem to read the CD. What could be the problem here?
