I just finished my first build, went to power on to fiddle with bios but the machine stays on for about 20 seconds then restarts, stays for 20 seconds, restarts. I get no beep, and my monitor reads "no signal imput". There's no burning smell and all the lights on everything are on. My PSU's "over 60% load" fan hasn't powered on either. I've tried without graphics card, extra ram, hard drive and disc drive and being rather new to this I'm out of ideas. Help?

Specs in case I missed something completely obvious:
intel i7 2.66 Ghz with stock cooling
MSI x58 Platinum
6 G (3x2G) XMS3 Corsair 1033 DDR3 RAM
HEC Zephyr 750 W
Galaxy GeForce 9600 1G 256 bit
WD Caviar 500GB HD
Samsung 22X multi-drive
Antec Nine Hundred case

Have you plugged in the power to your graphics card? some need there own power source and this problem will happen if it is not provided :)

I have it plugged in, maybe I've got the wrong plug in it? the PSU has 4 plugs for PCI-e. two are Rail 1 and Rail 2, one is just a rail 1 and one is just Rail 2. It's plugged into just rail 1 right now.

edit: also have gotten it the whole unit to power on steadily, but still no BIOS or beeping.

edit again to clarify: have four cords from the PSU one has an 8 pin and 6 pin PCI-E for rail one, one a 6, one 8 pin and 6 pin for rail 2 and one 6 pin for rail 2. the graphics card is a 6 pin. I've tried the both the 6 pin plugs for rail 1.

First of all is it SLI you may have it in the wrong PCIe slot might sound silly but when trouble shooting you ask the simplest things first. Have you correctly plugged in the MOBO speaker as most new motherboard's don't come with the speaker on board and you need to plug in the one that comes with the case this might be why your not getting any post codes. Finally have you tested the power supply as it my be supplying the wrong voltage, also this may sound extreme but you may have a faulty mobo as if fans and lights come on and nothing els there could be a fault with the power control circuitry if that fails then you need to replace/exchange the mobo.

hum.. I don't think I've plugged in the case speaker  But the card is definately in the right spot, and all the lights on the motherboard turn on. taking out the mainboard battery changed the system from restarting every 20 seconds to staying on steadily as well. How would I check the voltage on my power supply?

okay, happened to have a speaker from an old case I took apart (apparently the antec 900 doesn't come with one). I get 3 long beeps. taken out and re-arranged the ram. No change.

is it 1 short 3 long as thats a memory error some systems may be diffrant, try to install diffrant ram modules or start with just one, how meny modules are you useing as your mobo may be dual channle so your modules may not be in correct if theres 4 slots 3 modules wont work if its dual channle and its all ways good to use paired modules when you by as they are maid to work together consult your manul for eam config. also look to see if theres any dirt in the slots or any damage on the pins.Did you use ESD protection when installing them as they are vulnerable to static damage only takes 2000V to damge a chip may sound alot but it takes 3000v for you to feel a static shock.

It was RAM. I'm posting to thank you for all your help, and hopefully anyone else having a similar problem with their MSI board might read this. The numbering on MSI's x58 Platinum is misleading. The board is VERY particular about which order you plug in the RAM. The numbers physically on the board indicate that the the number 1 slot is the second from the CPU when in fact it's the farthest to the end. I found this out when trying to plug in my RAM to what I thought were slots 5 and 6 expecting the LED beside the ram to light red instead of blue, but to my ire the bloody thing worked instead.
